Sizing & Measurement
- Children’s feet can grow as much as 5 mm in a month. That’s why it’s important to measure their feet regularly. Shoes that are too small or too narrow can, in the worst case, harm the foot since the skeleton is still growing and forming at a young age. Don’t rely on your child to tell you when their shoes have become too small.
- It varies from person to person, but generally speaking:1-2 years old: 20 mm/year2-3 years old: 15 mm/year3-11 years old: 10 mm/year
- When there is less than 5 mm of space left in front of the toes, it’s time for new shoes. With every step you take, the foot moves, which means you need a toe room allowance of 5 mm to prevent the toes from hitting the front of the shoe.
- In the product description and in the size guide of each shoe, there's information on how the shoes fit.
- Place the measuring tool against the heel counter and hold it firmly in place.
- Press the measuring tape forward until it reaches the front of the shoe —the point where the shoe is at its longest. The tape should follow the insole to ensure an accurate reading.
- Read the measurement while the tape is still held inside the shoe. It’s not unusual for measurements to vary slightly between people, depending on how firmly they press or where inside the shoe they place the measuring stick. Always read the instructions for your specific measuring tool.
Keep in mind:- The measuring tape must follow the insole—the same path the foot will take inside the shoe.
- The measuring stick should always be held steady against the heel.
- Read the stick while it is still positioned inside the shoe.
- The easiest way to measure the foot is with a measuring stick. If you don’t have one, you can use paper and a pen. When measuring, it’s important that the person is standing, as the foot spreads a few millimeters under body weight.
Slide the paper up against a wall and place the foot on the paper with the heel touching the wall. Draw a line in front of the longest toe and measure the distance with a ruler. Measure both feet, as it’s common for one foot to be slightly larger than the other.
General
- It's not the easiest to measure the inner lenght of a shoe. The measurement may vary depending on how you measure and which measuring tool you use. In our measuring guide, you can read more about how to measure the inside length of your shoes at home.
- Kavat shoes generally run true to size and can be described as “fits true to size.” On each product page, we provide an internal length chart with the exact measurment of each shoe. The fit can be a bit tricky to specify, as it’s very individual how it is experienced. If you're uncertain on which size to choose, please reach out to our customer support.
- Where the shoes are made can vary depending on the model. On the product page, you can see the country of manufacture.
- We recommend cleaning embroidered shoes gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth. For caring for the leather, we use a clear wax, Kavat Wax, which should be applied carefully and only to the leather around the embroidery — not on the embroidered areas.
We are aware that this can be a bit time‑consuming, but it helps preserve the embroidery in the best possible way.
For the shoes without embroidery you can clean them with a damp cloth and the wax as well.
